Decision Support Tool
AMHOCN has created a web based version decision support tool. Follow the link to gain access to the decision support tool online.
Decision Support Tool
AMHOCN produced the first edition of the national aggregate reports in March 2005 as paper based reports. We have now created these reports electronically and they are available electronically by following the link below.
AMHOCN Reports Portal
The NOCC Decision Support Tool is an application written in MS-Access 2000 that contains aggregated data derived from the Australian Mental Health National Outcomes and Casemix Collection submissions from each State and Territory in Australia. The application has a user interface designed to assist clinicians and service managers working in Mental Health in Australia to compare their own clients against normative data collected across the whole of Australia.
Version 2.1 has extended the range of measures available. The previous version was limited to aggregated statistics based on HoNOSCA, HoNOS, and HoNOS 65+ measures. This version also includes aggregated statistics based on FIHS, SDQ, MHI-38, BASIS-32, and K10+ measures.
The tables in the application can be accessed by other applications using Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) drivers, or ADO/OLE-DB drivers, for MS-Access 2000.
The NOCC Decision Support Tool 2.1 Users' Guide is included in the application download in PDF format. You can preview this document by clicking the link at the start of this paragraph.
- If you already have MS-Access 2000, or above, installed, you should download the Application.
- If you have installed a previous download of the NOCC Decision Support Tool and downloaded the MS-Access Runtime at the same time, you should download the Application.
- If you do not have MS-Access 2000, or later, installed, and you have never downloaded the NOCC Decision Support Tool before, you should download the MS-Access Runtime and the Application.
Note: if you have a previous version of the application you should uninstall it using the Windows Control Panel before installing the current version. To do this, click Start | Control Panel and select the Add or Remove Programs category. Scroll down to the NOCC Decision Support Tool 2.0 item, select it, and click the Change/Remove button.

This component is only required if you intend to use the DST as a "front end" to the NOCC Data Cube. You can also access the NOCC Data Cube data with an Internet web browser by navigating to the "http://wdst.mhnocc.org/" page. It is just a matter of personal preference which you choose to do - the data returned is identical.
The MSXML component is required by the DST to interpret the information transmitted by the data cube - it is not required if you only want to access the data in the tables embedded in the DST.
The DST will alert you the first time it is run if it is unable to find the MSXML 6.0 component. To install the component, go to the "Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0" web page and follow the instructions.
- Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP (other versions of Windows may work, but have not been tested).
- You must have MS-Access 2000, or later, to run this application. A suitable runtime version of MS-Access is available in the second of the above downloads.
- The "Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0" component will be required if the DST is to be used to access the NOCC Data Cube via the Internet.
Note: There is a file called ACCESSRT.MSI embedded in the MS-Access Runtime installation script. If this file fails to run, you may need to update, or install, a version of the Microsoft Windows Installer 2.0 that is appropriate for your operating system. To do this, use one of the following links to the Microsoft web site, and follow the instructions.
In order to reduce the size of the download, the application has had all indexes, table relations, and calculated data removed. The first time the application is run, the missing indexes, table relations, and calculated data are recreated. This is a one-time-only operation - please be patient and let the operation run to completion. The data will be invalid if you do not.
This is an interim application designed by AMHOCN to meet the expressed needs of clinicians and managers for prompt feedback. As a result AMHOCN is only able to provide
limited technical support while a more sophisticated decision support tool is being created. If you have trouble installing the tool you should first read the installation instructions carefully to make sure you haven't overlooked something. After that, approach your local help desk to ensure it is not an issue with your PC. As a last resort, you can send an email with a technical query to amhocn-dst-helpdesk@strategicdata.com.au. We will look into your issue as soon as resources permit.
The following is a list of the reported issues with the NOCC Decision Support Tool, plus hyperlinks to related topics in the MHNOCC forum:
If you identify any new issues, please report them to the AMHOCN Helpdesk at amhocn-dst-helpdesk@strategicdata.com.au and the AMHOCN Team will address them as soon as possible.
