We were wondering why 'assistance with ambulation' in elderly inpatient services was not one of the items measured by the RUG-ADL - if the aim was to measure dependency. Elderly patients often need assistance in ambulating whether that be with one person, two person assist or with the use of a device ie wheel-chair. Is there any feedback to be had from other services? Confused

Hi Cresswell
Assistance with ambulation is DEFINITELY included in the RUG-ADL ratings. It is rated at item 3 'Transfer' which is concerned with the assistance required by the person in moving from A to B.
