Hi,
I have a query regarding items 11 and 12 for older persons in residential care settings, and how the nature and quality of residential care facility staff may affect the score.
According to
http://www.honos.org.uk/honos65/tabglos.htm
item 11: consideration should be given to
"Staff - numbers (trained), quality, experience, relationship to staff, knowledge of patient’s ability"
and on item 12:
"Staff/Carers/Professionals - numbers (trained), quality, experience, relationship to staff, knowledge of patient’s ability"
However, there is no mention of these factors in the NOCC protocol.
Was this intentionally omitted?
thanks,

Dear Angelo,
You are referring to the newer version of the HoNOS65+, the HoNOS 65+ Version 3, Tabulated
It was created around the same time that Australia agreed to introduce the HoNOS65+ to Older Persons Services. We decided to go with Version 2 of the HoNOS65+ because of its non comparability with the general adult HoNOS and the subsequent training and implementation issues.
The HoNOS65+ at scale 11 makes clear that the persons environment should "provide a choice of opportunities to facilitate the use of existing skills and develop new ones". During training the need to take into consideration issues around the abilities of staff, staffing and the quality of programs to meet the needs of consumers are discussed.
You should know that there are plans in place to work with the UK and NZ to further develop the HoNOS family of measures as a result of our implementation experience and I expect that these discrepancies will be clarified in time.
